This  2020 release from the famous Orkney distillery Highland Park, has been matured for an incredible 50 years. Highland Park's Master Whisky Maker Gordon Motion has chosen 9 refill casks that were distilled and filled back in 1968 to be married together in 2008. These were then re-racked into first-fill sherry-seasoned oak casks to mature for a further 12 years. Furthermore, in 2020 he selected one of these single European oak butt's to be married once more with some of the single malt used for their 50-year-old 2018 release, distilled back in 1964. The whisky is presented within a beautifully hand-crafted oak box from award-winning master craftsman John Galvin. Inside the box, the whisky is accompanied by an eye-catching crystal decanter, encased in polished gold-plated metal and a leather-bound book telling the story behind this amazing whisky. This special release is one of only 274, each of which is individually numbered and personally signed by Whisky Maker, Gordon Motion.

    Highland Park

The Macallan might be the jewel in the crown of Edrington, but a close second is Highland Park, especially after the brand investment, it has received in recent times. Established in 1798 by David Robertson on the outskirts on Kirkwall on Orkney, history suggests the site was used for illicit distillery way before this official date. In a landscape shaped by nature, ravaged by Vikings and the tides of war, Highland Park manages to bring everything together. A historical whisky that is universally appreciated, offering a little bit of something and famously called an ‘all rounder’, from locally sourced peat to a welcoming rugged characteristic. Highland Park doesn’t need the branding to stand out from the crowd. An increasingly varied core range can seem bewildering to someone new, so start with the 18 year old and being your voyage.
