Bushmills 1608
400th Anniversary
Rich in history, established in 1608, when King James I approved a license to distil, the Bushmills we know today was not founded until 1784, with many distillery buildings dating from 1885. Today it is owned by tequila maker Casa Cuervo, after striking a deal with Diageo in 2014. The new ownership has brought an increased faith and confidence in what the distillery is capable of doing. Overdue investment and new releases have since followed; the timing of the deal couldn’t have been more advantageous, as since, Irish whiskey has exploded in popularity. In recent years, Bushmills has regained some of its form that it showcased prior to the 1990s and has also taken advantage of the freedoms offered by the Irish whiskey regulations, by releasing a distillery exclusive matured in acacia wood. We can expect to see much more from the distillery with more capacity and warehousing coming online.
