Buying
How can I bid on the auctions?
You’ll need an account with us to place bids in any auction. Registration takes 60 seconds and there’s a small £5.00 registration fee, payable by credit or debit card. Once paid, you will be registered and can place bids in the auction immediately. The registration fee helps us ensure you’re a real person and a genuine bidder.
How often are the auctions?
We host our specialist whisky auctions once every month.
Can I view the auctions in person?
No. All our auctions are held online and no bidding takes place in person.
How long does an auction run for?
Typically, our auctions run for 5 days. You can view our calendar with auction dates here.
Can I preview the auction?
No. All auction lots will be revealed when the auction goes live.
What are the auction fees?
Buyer’s premium is due on any lot won at auction and is %. If you’re in the United Kingdom, VAT is added to this fee, so the fee becomes NaN%. As an example, if you won an item for £100, the buyers premium would be £0 or £NaN if you are in the United Kingdom.
What is an auto-bid / proxy bid?
Our Automatic Bid System allows you to enter a maximum price that you’re willing to pay for an item. The system will automatically bid the minimum amount required to secure the lot for you. If your bid is successful or you’re outbid, we’ll let you know via email.
Why does the timer extend on a lot?
In the interest of fairness, any bids placed in the final five minutes of a particular lot will extend the end time of that Lot by 15 minutes. We believe in giving our customers a fair amount of time to increase their bid should they wish. Last second sniping isn’t in the spirit of our auctions and by using this system there is no benefit to doing so.
Can I view all my bids in one area?
Yes. You can view all your bids in the buyer’s section of the account area.
Can I cancel my bid?
We encourage all our customers to be careful when placing bids, and the system is set up in such a way that all bids need to be confirmed to be accepted. Having said that, we realize that occasionally a genuine mistake could have been made (for example placing a bid of £1000 instead of £100. If that is the case, please contact a team member by email at least 24 hours before the auction ends.
How long do I have to pay?
Payment is due within 4 days (96 hours) of the auction end time.
What happens if I don’t pay in time?
A late payment fee of 5% will be applied to your account.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept payments by all major credit cards and debit cards. Payment can also be made by bank transfer.
Do you accept American Express?
Yes. We accept Amex payments.
Are there any card fees?
There are no credit card fees for customers inside the EU and UK, however a 3% surcharge is applied to cards registered outside these areas.
Do you ship to my country?
Probably! We ship globally, but there are some countries which we simply cannot ship to. Please check your country and rates on. our shipping page.
Can I insure my shipment?
We carefully send hundreds of parcels each month Worldwide. Insurance is available at extra cost (3%+ vat) and protects against loss or breakage en-route to you. Sadly, we cannot insure or be held liable for any leakage, or damage to seals in transit.
Can I collect my winning bids from Just Whisky?
Yes! Collection is possible and no appointment is necessary. If you’re paying for your lot on collection, please be sure to arrive after 10am for local licensing reasons. Our collection address is:

Can I store items at Just Whisky?
Yes, we offer a free storage period of 1 month. After this period, we offer paid storage periods of 3, 6 and 9 months. You can view our storage rates here.
Can I combine orders when shipping to save on fees?
Yes. Items you have stored at Just Whisky can be combined with your most recent order at the checkout page, which will save money on shipping fees.
What time do the auction start?
Typically our auctions start at 5pm UK time.
What are your opening hours?

Do I need to book an appointment?
No. There’s no appointment necessary
Can someone collect my order on my behalf?
Yes. Please email us or leave a note on your order with a note of the persons name. Please ask the person to bring identification with them to collect.
Selling
Can you provide valuations for my bottles?
Yes. We’re experts at providing estimated sales prices for your whisky. Complete our sales contact form on this page and you can upload pictures of your whisky. Please allow 2-3 business days for these prices.
Do you sell whisky casks?
Yes. Selling your cask shouldn't be complicated! We're here to make the process easy and efficient. We'll advise you on what your cask is likely to sell for. We'll handle any paperwork and ownership transfer and handle your sale completely anonymously. All cask sales benefit from 0% sellers commission, so you will receive the entire hammer price.
Can I sell wine or other spirits?
We do not accept Wine or Champagne. However other spirits ~40% are accepted. Examples being Rum, Brandy, Gin.
What are the auction fees?
We charge a £7.50 entry fee per lot (+VAT for UK Seller's). You won't pay a penny in Seller's Commission on any item you sell

How do I sell?
Selling Whisky should be a pleasurable experience not a complicated one! We've broken down the process into a few easy-to follow steps.

Once at Just Whisky, we’ll handle photography and description of your lots and enter your whisky into our auction. We take payment, then pay you within 14 days of the auction end date.

What is the starting price?
The starting price of a lot is determined by the minimum alcohol pricing rule in Scotland. Typically for a 40% and 70cl bottle the start price is £14.00, and rising if the alcohol percentage of that bottle is higher or the bottle size is larger.
What is a reserve price?
If you’d like to protect your bottle from selling for under a certain amount, we can place a reserve price on the Lot. This costs £7.50 (+VAT for UK Seller's) per reserve. We will advise if the Reserve Price is too high and will result in a non-sale. We hold the right to refuse to enter a Lot if the reserve price is deemed to be too high.
Can I check the prices of my whisky during a sale?
Yes. You can view all the items you’re selling from the account area Dashboard or Seller’s area.
Can I change my reserve price?
Yes. You can reduce the reserve price on your bottle but not increase it. The new reserve price must be higher than the current bid price.
Can you collect my whisky?
Yes. We regularly arrange courier collections from sellers all over the World. We can arrange a courier collection using our shipping partners, DHL and DPD. You&aposll be able to select this option during the sell process.

Can I drop off my whisky to your premises?

When will I be paid?
Typically, payments are made within 7 – 14 days of the auction end date.
What happens if my items don’t sell?
Once the auction ends, you’ll receive the auction results by email and you can also view them in your account area. If you would like to re-list unsold items in the next auction you can do that. There is also the option to have any unsold items shipped back to you.
Can I track the price of my lots when the auction is live?
Yes. You can do that from the sellers area in the account section of the website.
Can I bid on my own items?
No. We do not allow bidding on your own Lots and the function is disabled on your account. If we discover this activity, any of the bids will be withdrawn and your account is likely to be suspended. The same applies if we find any evidence of this from family members or friends.
