    Macallan 71, 74, & 78 Years Old
    The Red Collection (3x70cl)
    Lot #1371197

The Macallan Red Collection reflects the distilleries' deep respect for time, tradition, and craftsmanship. It is a celebration of the rich range of reds presents naturally in The Macallan—in every step of the process. The distinctive red colour weaves its way through their history, starting with the name of the founder Alexander Reid—literally “The Red”, to The Macallan’s ‘Choice Old’ range released over a century ago in 1903, through to Allan Shiach marking vintage bottles of The Macallan with a red ribbon in the 1980s. The Macallan Master Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell presents a peerless single malt whisky that has slowly matured over five extraordinary decades under the watchful eye of generations of whisky makers until it has reached this perfect moment of maturation. The ‘new make’ spirit from The Macallan’s small copper stills was laid down in hand-picked oak casks and left to mature for over seventy years. During these decades of slumber, the carefully selected wood shaped the unique character of the whisky delivering the natural colour, distinctive aromas and full flavours of this aged single malt. The 71 years old, (bottle number 158) is bottled at 41.6%. The 74 years old, (bottle number 055) is bottled at 42.6%. The 78 years old, (bottle number 185) is bottled at 42.2%.

    Macallan

Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, the Elchies Distillery as it was known initially, did not become the Macallan-Glenlivet in name until 1892. Since then, it has undergone massive expansion with Edrington and William Grant & Sons combining forces in 1999 to purchase Highland Distillers for £601 million. By then, the reputation of the distillery for its sherry-led style of whisky was already firmly in place. The new ownership model has enabled the distillery to produce new ranges, reach out to new demographics and establish itself as an international brand of quality. Bottles are Macallan are increasingly sought after for their commodity value and not the contents, which often are of high quality. Moving to a new distillery site in recent years, will in the long-term, allow Macallan to produce more and if needed, the old distillery sits idle despite being capable of producing 11 million litres before it closed in 2018.
