Teaninich 22 Years Old 1957
Cadenhead's Dumpy
Today’s version of Teaninich is a modern-looking distillery, which is one of Diageo’s biggest thanks to major investment on the site. Historically, Teaninich has called the town of Alness home since 1817 yet it has remained forever in the shadow of Dalmore which is a short walk away. The changes at the distillery began in earnest in 1970 when a new extension with 6 stills was founded. This led to the use of an A distillery and B distillery to distinguish between both sides. Both fell silent during the harsh times of the early 1980s before the A plant returned to life in 1991 and the B unit was decommissioned. Despite its size and energy efficiency, very little of Teaninch has been released officially as it heads into blends. Thankfully, the independents bottle releases on a frequent basis, which allows us to explore Teaninich’s biggest claim to fame; a hammer mill and mash filter rather than a mill and mash tun.
